Each year, 35 000 children and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer in Europe (2 500 in France) and 13 500 in the US. 25% will die from it. Current research is primarily focused on adult cancers, with only 2 % of funding allocated to pediatric cancer. Yet, childhood cancers are not the same as adult cancers: they therefore require different treatments.
This is Imagine for Margo’s ambition: to raise funding to support development of innovative and specific treatments for children and adolescents with cancer.
1 child in 440 is diagnosed with cancer before the age of 15.
Imagine for Margo has signed a partnership with the network of European researchers ITCC (Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer)
Our objectives :
-Collect funds to help finance specific research programs that focus on finding innovative and more effective treatments against pediatric cancers.
-Raise government awareness and push for changes in European legislation in order to obtain dedicated funding for pediatric research and reduce the administrative burden blocking treatment innovation.
-Promote collaboration between researchers, pharmaceutical industries, legislators and parents' associations to speed up research on pediatric cancers and long-term follow-up of children and adolescents.
-Help families and children hospitalized with cancer and improve their well-being during treatment.
Our Accomplishments
-Imagine for Margo signed a partnership with European researchers from the ITCC (Innovative Therapies for Children with Cancer) in October 2012 and is a member of the European Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOPE).
-Participation in international events: International Congress of Pediatric Oncology and Congress of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP).
-Interventions at the European Parliament during International Childhood Cancer Awareness days to explain to legislators how difficult it is to apply pediatric regulation. In fact, the number of pediatric medicines has not increased, and a large majority of children in therapeutic failure do not have access to specific and innovative drugs.
-Articles published in international journals such as the annual magazine of the International Brain Tumor Alliance (IBTA) and the prestigious journal The Lancet Oncology.
-Co-funding of European clinical trials VINILO (low grade gliomas) and BEACON (neuroblatome).
-Organization of the annual "Children Without Cancer" Run/Walk to collect funds for clinical trials
-Raise awareness of childhood cancer by participating in numerous international races (Paris, New York, Boston Marathons, several Ironman events, including the world championship in Hawaii, ultra Trail Mont Blanc)
-Numerous fund raising activities through various cultural and sporting events and in schools and colleges, thanks to many organizations that support us and our precious ambassadors in France and abroad.
